9/365 Aspen Tree

December1

I spent the day at my grandmother’s house. It is the house that I grew up in, and I must say that nothing really changes. Everything is in the same place that it was in when I left home in 1998.

My favorite thing about being at my grandma’s house is that she is so generous with what she has. There may not be a lot of money, but that doesn’t stop her from feeding anyone who stops by. We had 30 people for Thanksgiving this year.

One thing about Eastern Oregon is that it is usually cold and sunny. It was 23 and sunny this morning. As I watched the sun set on the last day here, I scoured around looking for a place to take the photo in the beautiful, golden, winter light.

After offloading 2 kids in the cold grass and finding a place to put this camera, I found this spot.

I am leaning on an Aspen tree I used to climb and play around when I was a kid. Behind me is the pasture our goats and ponies played and grew in.

It will be bittersweet getting back to my regular life. I always enjoy spending time playing around in my roots.
