50. Mr. Cyprus Chows Down

January18

Having a 6 month old baby that wants to eat solid food is a new adventure to me. We offered solids to Daphne at 6 months and she was not interested at all, so we didn’t try again until around 10-11 months. She was walking before she was eating!

Cyprus will fuss and throw a fit if he does not get to eat with the rest of the family. Toys will no longer placate him when he is sitting with the rest of the family during a meal time. I have started to save the stales crusts of bread for him to chew on, and that seems to really make him happy. I also try to offer him some of the appropriate foods that we are eating.

I have decided to stop worrying so much about allergies and potential problems and let him tell me where we are going to go with this food thing. So far it is working.

I have also started to feed him some baby food. My friend Rebecca and I canned a ton of baby food for our babies (they are only 2 months apart). This has been hit or miss so far. I fed Cyprus some Asian Pear food, and he was not much of a fan. I’m not sure if he didn’t like the taste or the texture.

I just opened up a jar of quince applesauce that I canned, and it seems to be much more exciting for him.

When I feed him I just tie a towel around him–it works better than a bib. I also give him one spoon for each hand so that he is distracted from trying to grab the spoon I am trying to feed him with.
