63/365 Placenta Print

February4

This is stretching the rules a little bit, but I feel totally justified.

After Cyprus was born I decided I wanted to save the placenta for later use. Our freezer is ALWAYS full, and I kept pulling it out asking Jared what it was. I was so confused why there was a piece of meat (looked like a steak) in our freezer with my name written on it. Jared would roll his eyes at me and remind me for the hundredth time that it was the placenta I had my heart set on keeping.

I finally decided to get it out and do something with it so that I could have the freezer space back and so I could quit asking Jared what it was.

I have heard of people using their placentas to make prints. The placenta actually has a really cool vein structure on it that when you look at it, it looks like a tree. Placenta prints are also called "tree of life" prints. I decided to try to make one of my own.

Though the tree of life vein structure didn’t come out very well in the print, it does still very much look like a tree.

I really, really liked doing it, and I think i will do it right after any future births.

Jared agreed this could be a 365 photo even though it is stretching things a little bit. I think placentas are cool. They are the only disposable organ with a finite use that can be regenerated indefinitely. I worked SO hard when I was pregnant, to make the placenta. It is technically a likeness. Sorry for the diversion from normalcy.

The good news is that the placenta is now out of the freezer and has been diverted for "other uses", the details of which I will spare the world.
